No time for blogging!

It has been a long time since I last posted...Todd has been traveling with work A LOT this month. He had trips to Ft. Lauderdale, Chicago, and Mississippi in the last 2 weeks. We have missed him while he is gone and I have gotten a wake up call as to how hard it is to be a single parent, if just for a couple of days (and I even have family to help out).

Luke had his first honest to goodness illness last week (luckily Todd had just gotten home from a trip). It started out as a faint "pin prick" rash on his stomach Monday night. Then Tuesday night he suddenly got very hot and vomited. Wednesday the doctor pricked his finger and tested his white blood count which was elevated, meaning he had a virus. She told us to stay home for the rest of the day Wednesday and Thursday to get him back to normal. Thursday the little guy was fine and Friday we both went back to Primrose. By the afternoon Luke's temperature was creeping back up toward 101 degrees so Saturday morning was spent back at the doctor's office. The poor little guy had to get his finger pricked again which showed an even higher elevation in his white blood count causing the need for more extensive testing. Before beginning the procedures the doctors advice for Todd and I was, "you can cry too if you want." Our morning was rounded out by our 5 1/2 month old getting cathederized (to check for UTI), blood taken from a vein in his scalp (it is easier than trying to find a vein in the chubby arms of babies) and a shot of antibiotic (to treat whatever this nasty thing is). Apparently there is some kind of bug going around and Luke was just one of several babies that had to have this torture done to them in the past few days. We should get the test results back soon to see what exactly was wrong (probably just a virus though). It is Sunday night and Luke is feeling much better, no fever over 100 degrees and he was his usual happy self all day.

***Being a first time mom, I have no clue how pediatricians usually run the after hours part of their practice, but I am impressed with the way Luke's clinic contacts patients after hours. All you have to do is leave a message detailing any concern and a nurse calls you back within 30 minutes. If it is necessary to see a doctor immediately, they refer you to a 24 hour clinic (so you don't have to go to the ER with your baby).

One more thing...Last Sunday night Allison and I went to see The New Kids on the Block perform at the American Airlines Center. I have to admit I was less than thrilled with the prospect of going when our friends offered the tickets to us. Fast forward to the show and I was "Hangin Tough, Step By Step with The Right Stuff" for the entire night. This verifies the fact that I am a.) getting old and b.) a complete dork! **See earlier post about Dave Mathews concert for more proof** Thanks Stephen and Anji for giving me a great night that I didn't expect.

Onward to the good stuff...

Luke smiles all the time, except when I point the camera at him so this is a rarity.

Hello......is anyone out there........I am not asleep people!

Cords and Star Wars onesie, what a cool dude.

This is Lukes favorite toy. He loves to "call" people and then chew on the phone. He will take it out of my hand and hang up on anyone... but mostly just his Grandma Brumleve. He has his own toy cell phone but prefers the real thing when he can get his hands on it.
